Meet the team

Since launching Athertons back in 1994, Managing Director John Atherton has successfully grown the business through his professional, reliable and bespoke approach. John is a chartered surveyor and specialises in the sale and purchase of rural property and land, providing his unique level of knowledge and service to all our clientele. As members of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), we work to strict professional regulations and guidelines. However, the selling and buying of property is a people-centred process and it is essential that we have the necessary interpersonal skills, along with sound knowledge of the industry and market.

Jim has been working within the property industry since 2013 with a background in residential surveying and valuation. In 2019 he joined his father John in the family firm at Athertons. He currently manages all residential sales and valuations from the Whalley office, alongside his day-to-day work as Director.

Helen has a vast knowledge of the local property market, having worked in it for 17 years. She specialises in the sales progression process going above and beyond to ensure a smooth process for both buyer and vendor from sale agreed through to completion.

Tom has worked in the property industry for around 16 years and has been with Athertons since 2015. Having gained extensive knowledge in all areas of estate agency and basic law through experience and his National Association of Estate Agents award (MNAEA), he manages our Whalley office, negotiates offers, carries out viewings & has managed new build development sites within the Blackburn and Ribble Valley areas. Tom is also a qualified Residential Energy Assessor and carries out Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs) for most of the properties we put on the market.

Mollie is the most recent addition to the Athertons team undertaking all things media related including photography, videography, social media account management and general marketing. She has previous experience in the property sector as a photographer as well as media roles in the fashion industry and is responsible for our listings looking as beautiful as they do.

Phil’s hands on approach to the day to day running of the business creates peace of mind for our landlord and tenants, ensuring that everyone feels valued, and looks to simplify the process for all involved. Personal service and high standards are key to the business growth. Phil aims to put this in place daily.

Property Manager (ARLA) - Emily joined us in August 2021. She is responsible for day-to-day Landlord, tenant, and maintenance management. Emily is ARLA property mark qualified, the most recognised professional standard in the lettings industry. Emily splits her time between Barrowford, Whalley and Clitheroe offices.
