WHALLEY CRICKET CLUB

We have recently renewed our sponsorship of Whalley Cricket Club.  Based at Station Road and a longstanding member of the Ribblesdale League, the club hosted the first ever Roses match between Lancashire and Yorkshire in 1867.

As the club’s main sponsor, with Athertons boards displayed around the ground, we are committed to supporting the club financially and promoting it as a community resource.  We look forward to arranging a charity match, between an Athertons XI and Cricket Club side, when circumstances allow later this year.

WHALLEY GOLF CLUB

Set in a stunning location, the club boasts a nine-hole course with excellent practice facilities.  It can also accommodate 100 diners and is renowned for its superb catering.

Having recently become lead sponsor, we will aim to further strengthen the club’s links with the local community.  As part of this, we will organise a charity golf day for clients and friends later in the year; this will raise money for local good causes.  On a personal note, John hopes that his involvement with the club will help him to shed his tag as one of the worst golfers in the Ribble Valley!

WHALLEY TENNIS CLUB

Also situated on Station Road, the club is ideal for all tennis enthusiasts, be they beginners or experienced players.  Every September, we hold an annual tournament in memory of our late friend Neil Wetherburn; this is always a well-attended and convivial event.

DOG INN FC

Whalley’s only adult football team, Dog Inn won the local league title in 2010-11 and has since reached four major cup finals.  We are now in our second spell as the club’s kit sponsors.  There has always been a strong connection between Athertons and Dog Inn FC.  Back in 2001, John was a founder member of the club in its current incarnation and a regular player until 2007.  Our Simon Kerins has now marked 20 years as manager.

ROYAL LANCASHIRE SHOW

Now held at Salesbury Hall near Ribchester, this annual event includes livestock displays, showjumping and the sale of quality produce from around the county.  John Atherton is both a Director of the Show and a committee member; his main duties at the three-day show are hosting the Members’ Tent, welcoming both members and clients and helping to ensure the best possible experience for all attendees.  We are proud sponsors of the Countryside Arena.

WHALLEY CHAMBER OF TRADE

For many years, Athertons has administrated the running of this important support mechanism for local businesses; John is the longstanding Chamber Chairman.  As one of Whalley’s longest established organisations, we are passionate about maximising the economic potential of Whalley for the benefit of both businesses and residents.
